US Open's iconic colors

Tennis’s #1 color combination

As the US Open kicks off this year, we are reminded of the iconic colors of the Flushing Meadow courts: US Open Green and US Open Blue. These colors evoke hot summer nights in NY City, with tennis gleaming under the blazing lights of the game’s biggest stadium.

Jeff Bryant, Laykold North America National Sales Director: ‘The US Open Blue and Green are by far our most popular color choice around the world. People want the same look, feel and quality as the US Open, and Laykold is in a unique position to provide this, as we’re the exclusive supplier of the official US Open colors.’

Chosen by 12 ATP/WTA events

The colors are also synonymous with elite tennis and the best tournaments around the world.

Of all ATP/WTA hard-court events in North America (15 total), 12 use the famous green and blue, and thousands of colleges, clubs and home courts around the world choose the US Open look.

2005: Blue courts introduced for the first time

US Open courts switched to blue in 2005; previously they had been all green.

The move to blue made it easier for fans (watching live or on a screen), and players, to spot the fast-moving fluro tennis balls, making the sport more watchable and marketable.

The 2005 US Open saw victories to Kim Clijsters and Roger Federer, who ended Andre Agassi’s amazing run.

Flushing’s blue court is red-hot fast

The US Open is known for being the fastest hard-court tournament in professional tennis, with tournament organizers and players demanding Pace Precision on both practice and competition courts (43 courts in total) of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Laykold is an elite tennis surface made with advanced chemistry; we are not a paint company doing sport as an add-on. Therefore, we can meet the needs of the US Open, by tapping into 25 years of exhaustive testing, scientific research and our formulation database to dial in the requested pace rating to within 0.5 of a point.
