2005: Blue courts introduced for the first time
US Open courts switched to blue in 2005; previously they had been all green.
The move to blue made it easier for fans (watching live or on a screen), and players, to spot the fast-moving fluro tennis balls, making the sport more watchable and marketable.
The 2005 US Open saw victories to Kim Clijsters and Roger Federer, who ended Andre Agassi’s amazing run.
Flushing’s blue court is red-hot fast
The US Open is known for being the fastest hard-court tournament in professional tennis, with tournament organizers and players demanding Pace Precision on both practice and competition courts (43 courts in total) of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
