Force Reduction Revolution

Play more tennis with happy knees

Hard courts have been taking a toll on players for too long, and Laykold’s innovative surfaces are transforming the life and value of the court… and the game itself.

Laykold is transforming tennis court performance with Force Reduction courts; our goal is to reduce player/coach injury and fatigue by providing a surface that encourages and enables more play:

  • Laykold Force Reduction hard courts offer 15-21% force reduction

  • Over 10 years they retain 95%-98% of their force reduction

  • Their energy return (70% for Laykold Masters Gel) means that movement is fast and responsive

  • All courts feature Laykold’s US Open-quality topcoats

Play more regularly, Feel fitter and healthier

Laykold’s Force Reduction Revolution gives players the performance, consistency, pace and colour of hard-court tennis, plus the easy-on-your-body benefits usually associated with clay or grass.

Our Force Reduction courts deliver less fatigue and reduce the risk of injury, which means you can play on Monday, and bounce back by Wednesday. And even join in on Saturday’s club day. Pain free!

Why is tennis being played on 35-year-old court technology?

Courts are the most critical component of the player experience - after all a court is 260m2 while the ball is only 6.6cm in diameter, and a Laykold court will last for many years, while the ball might only last a match.

Yet courts have received relatively little in the way of R&D in the last 35 years – it’s time for a transformation.

Laykold’s Force Reduction courts are the step change in tennis court performance that the players, young and old, are demanding. Old cushion-court technology typically begins to harden within two to three years, degrading down to a 0% force reduction approximately five years after installation.

This has given the idea of cushion courts a bad name and the tennis community is understandably skeptical. However, Laykold’s Force Reduction technology is completely different to the old-tech ‘cushion’ surfaces.

Pace Precision

Consistency measured in decimal points

With Laykold, you can now order your court speed to within 0.5 of a point! (as measured by ITF pace ratings.) An average first serve in men’s tennis is approximately 115mph, which gives a returner 0.47 seconds to react. These intense performance parameters require a precision surface. With Laykold, the world’s best tournaments have Pace Precision like never before.

Sand Science, for performance and durability

Sand plays two important roles in a tennis court’s performance

It controls the pace of the surface. Your sand rating is essentially your pace rating. Ensuring the right type and blend of sand will ensure consistency of surface pace and therefore, speed of play.

It provides increased abrasion resistance which prolongs the lifespan of the court. Read more about the sand science: It’s why Laykold has the longest warranties.
